The news of the terrible tragedy that has fallen upon Nepal has been heard around the world. We all feel for the people and the communities that have been affected by this misfortune. While we pray for the victims of the earthquake and support the ongoing rescue efforts, we also celebrate what makes Nepal so endearing in the first place. Let’s take some time to remember the people, places and natural beauty that will always keep Nepal in our hearts and on our minds.
Why Do We Love Nepal?
The Landscape: Nepal has a stunning and unique natural landscape that we all know and love. From the snowy tops of the renowned Mt. Everest to the winding trekking trails through the Langtang and Annapurna regions, Nepal is a place of the mountains, both towering and inviting. The peaks kiss the clear blue skies and are reflected in the pristine lakes at their feet, doubling the beauty. The terraced rice fields, the colorful flora and the forested plains are what makes Nepal stick out in our minds.
The People: And what beautiful people they are. The country is home to over 102 different ethnic groups all living together in one place. Diverse religions and different dialects don’t stop this population from the calling the same country home. Most are smiling, friendly and welcoming to travelers who come to visit.
The Spirituality: Maybe it’s a combination of the natural beauty both in the people and the land, but there is an overwhelming spirituality that surrounds Nepal. The colorful prayer flags, the mountain monasteries and the countless people representing their beliefs, all of it adds to Nepal’s spiritual demeanor.
For all of these reasons and more, many of you want to do what you can to help the people of Nepal after this devastating earthquake. Luckily for us, the internet now makes it easier than ever to keep up with happenings during and after a natural disaster. Google’s new Person Finder now makes it possible to search a data base to find out if someone that you know was in the area of the disaster and if they are safe. If a friend traveling in Nepal enters their name into the database, you are able to search for them and confirm that they were not hurt in the incident.
